Classic sphagnum moss, a few twigs but gets the job done
This sphagnum moss is a natural and biodegradable substrate from Chile, used to create humid microclimates in terrariums and for cultivating orchids. This Chilean sphagnum moss has been used in orchid cultivation and the terrarium hobby for many years and is known for its exceptional freshness and high degree of purity. However, to a lesser extent than our premium moss from New Zealand. In our experience, there is no significant difference between the two when it comes to cultivation results.
Features:
The moss is 100 percent natural, organic, and biodegradable. It is antibacterial thanks to its saccharide complexes, reducing the risk of mold growth and putrefactive bacteria. It is free from fertilizers and pesticides, as well as free from tannic acids that are harmful to the sensitive roots of orchids and bonsai.
The moss can absorb up to 20 times its own weight in water and gradually releases it into the surroundings. This helps maintain consistent humidity and moisture balance. At the same time, it has high air permeability, loosening the soil and ensuring sufficient air or oxygen in the substrate. It can also help regulate pH levels in plant substrates or aquariums.
pH level: 4.5 to 5, Fiber length: approximately 8 to 15 centimeters
Use in terrariums:
Sphagnum moss is perfectly suited for terrariums and aquariums where it helps stabilize the climate. It can be used as a substrate on the floor and sides of the terrarium or simply for decorative reasons. In this way, you create a beautiful natural environment for your animal. The moss maintains high humidity and creates a good microclimate, can be used as a substrate for egg-laying and hibernation, and is suitable as decoration in terrariums. Perfect for rainforest terrariums and as a moist hiding place for frogs, toads, salamanders, and reptiles.
Use for orchids and plants:
Sphagnum moss is perfect for cultivating garden and potted plants, especially orchids and bonsai. If used in a substrate mix, it retains large amounts of excess water and gradually releases it as the surroundings become dry. In this way, it reduces the risk of waterlogging and mold, effectively and ecologically. The moss improves moisture balance and keeps roots evenly moist, retards the growth of bacteria and rot, and is an important component of our orchid soil.
Volume:
A 200-gram package contains pressed moss with a volume of approximately 3 liters when packed. When unpacked, it reaches a volume of approximately 8 liters, and when soaked, it expands to about 16 liters. Buy sphagnum moss online!
