Decorative Snake Plant with Sculptural Character, Drought-Tolerant and Easy to Care for

'Swan Dancer' is a cultivar that appears in trade without documented breeder or lineage, which is common among the many hybrids and selections developed within this genus, especially in Thailand where much of the modern Sansevieria breeding takes place.

The genus Sansevieria is now scientifically classified within Dracaena, although the old name is still used in trade and common parlance. The species originate from tropical Africa and South Asia, where they grow in dry to semi-dry environments.

Care

This is a plant of medium difficulty to care for, very easy to succeed with when the basics are stable, but less forgiving if light, watering, or humidity fluctuate too much.

Provide stable, bright, and filtered light. It is shade-tolerant like most Sansevierias but grows better and retains its markings more clearly in good light. Avoid strong direct sunlight.

Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. Overwatering is by far the most common problem and quickly leads to root rot. Use well-draining cactus or succulent soil, preferably with extra sand or perlite.

Water much more sparingly during winter when growth stops. Ideal temperature 18-26 degrees Celsius. Should not be exposed to temperatures below 10 degrees. Fertilize lightly every four to six weeks during spring and summer, not at all during autumn and winter.

Wipe dust from the leaves occasionally. Do not cut off the tip of healthy leaves – they will not grow back. Repot every two to three years in a pot with good drainage. Buy Sansevieria 'Swan Dancer' online!
