Slow-growing Indonesian hybrid with intricately patterned rosettes and golden leaf margins

Dracaena 'Cleopatra', formerly known as Sansevieria 'Cleopatra', is a beautiful and slow-growing succulent that forms rosettes of leaves with an intricate pattern in dark and light green. The leaves are thick and slightly curved with wavy edges, often featuring a fine reddish-brown or golden-yellow margin.

The plant spreads through underground stems (rhizomes) that eventually push up through the soil and form new rosettes. During spring or summer, it typically produces an upright flower stalk with creamy white to pale yellow flowers that emerge from the center of the rosette.

According to the Tangerang Sansevieria Club, 'Cleopatra' is a hybrid created by Edianta Sebayang in Indonesia. It is the result of a cross between Dracaena 'Phupramorn Delight', a Thai hybrid of Dracaena 'Horwood' and Dracaena francisii, and Dracaena rhodesiana. Some sources also suggest Dracaena pearsonii as a possible parent in the cross.

Care

Place the plant in moderately bright or filtered light. Good placements include in front of a north-facing window or a bright, sunny window covered by a sheer curtain. Although the plant tolerates low light, a bright location enhances the colors in the leaves.

Allow the soil to dry out completely before watering, then water thoroughly until water runs out through the drainage hole. Let the pot drain and empty any water from the saucer. Never let the soil become waterlogged and never leave the pot standing in water. Water sparingly during the winter.
