Mexican Butterwort with Sticky Leaves and Large White-Violet Flowers

Pinguicula agnata is a carnivorous plant from northeastern Mexico, endemic to humid pine forests where it has perfectly adapted to its environment.

Its sticky leaves trap small insects that get stuck on contact, and its succulent leaves store moisture, helping the plant through the dry season. The flowers are large and range from white to blue-violet and purple, blooming in late spring.

Care

Thrives in bright, indirect light to light direct sun. Use nutrient-poor substrate of sphagnum moss mixed with perlite, sand, or finely crushed limestone, never regular potting soil or fertilizer.

Keep the substrate moist during the growing season but not waterlogged. Water only with distilled or rainwater. During winter, the plant enters a succulent dormancy with less sticky leaves, at which point watering should be significantly reduced.

Ideal temperature 18-28 degrees Celsius. Does not need to be fed; it catches its own insects.

Shipping Policy

When buying live plants, transport can sometimes affect the condition of the plant. We strive to ensure that all plants arrive in good health, but minor shipping damage, such as a torn leaf or bent stem, is sometimes unavoidable. Read more about our policy here.
