Compact philodendron that remains red significantly longer than 'Prince of Orange' and 'Red Sun'

Philodendron 'McColley's Finale' is one of the most colorful philodendrons with a compact, bushy growth habit; it does not climb, but instead forms a dense plant that manages without support.

What makes this variety special is how long the color lasts. New leaves unfurl intensely red and then shift over time to a vibrant orange and dark red. Only truly old leaves take on a dark green tone, which means that the plant in practice remains predominantly red, unlike, for example, 'Prince of Orange' and 'Red Sun', where the green tones take over much faster.

The cultivar grows quite slowly and produces relatively few leaves, but they eventually become substantial and can reach up to 40 centimeters in length.

The name honors Robert H. McColley, a philodendron breeder from Florida. After his death, his wife Cora McColley continued to manage his philodendron collection, and it was she who discovered one among thousands of seedlings that looked dramatically different from all the others. The plant was registered in 1999 under the US plant patent USPP12144P2 as Philodendron 'McColley's Finale'.

Care

Very suitable as a houseplant for bright locations, but without direct sunlight. Plenty of light is important for the red color to remain intense.
