Monstera deliciosa has become an incredibly popular houseplant in recent years. Monstera is easy to care for and has large, broad, light green leaves that develop holes and lobes as the plant matures. Botanical description

Monstera deliciosa originates from the Mexican states of Veracruz, Oaxaca and Chiapas and Guatemala in Central America. There it grows wild in tropical areas as an epiphyte, i.e. growing on other plants. Monstera deliciosa is the most common species of the approximately 60 species in the Monstera genus.

Care

Appearance

The leaves are large, heart-shaped to oval, and become deeply lobed and perforated as they mature. The young leaves are entire and without holes. Mature leaves can be up to 90 cm long and 60 cm wide.

The flowers are creamy white and can develop into edible fruits under the right conditions. The fruit, sometimes called "Mexican breadfruit", is oblong and green. When ripe, it tastes sweet and aromatic.
