Krypopuntian is a low-growing cactus that can be grown outdoors in Sweden.
This flowering cactus can withstand temperatures as low as -30 degrees Celsius and is therefore expected to be grown outdoors in Sweden, sometimes with winter protection. The cactus flowers profusely and produces edible fruits, just like many prickly pear cacti.
Botanical description.
The Krypopuntian comes from the eastern United States and Mexico but has now been introduced to many other parts of the world, including Europe in Germany, England, etc.
Care.
Although the cactus can withstand cold, it may be a good idea to cover it with a fiber cloth during the coldest weeks of winter. It needs to be planted in very well-draining soil, e.g. on rocks or slopes. Otherwise, the roots will rot during spring and autumn. The cactus also needs to be in the sun to feel good.
