Delicate Hoya with a different growth habit

It is not only the silver color that makes 'New Guinea Ghost' unique, but above all its strange growth habit that differs markedly from other hoya species.

The plant sets many dense nodes and the tendrils often divide at a node so that the leaves come on different levels instead of opposite. Sometimes it sends out nodes with more than two leaves and it is not uncommon for a tendril to divide without a visible node, or for inflorescences to grow in clumps or directly on the tendril instead of just at the nodes.

Botanical description

Hoya nicholsoniae belongs to the Apocynaceae family and is originally native to Papua New Guinea. K The cultivar 'New Guinea Ghost' (NS16-006) is a selection known for its silvery leaves and unique growth characteristics.

Unlike most other hoya species that have a more predictable growth habit with opposite leaves at distinct nodes, this cultivar displays an irregular and compact pattern that quickly creates dense vegetation.

Care

Thrives in bright, indirect light; bright light enhances the lavender-pink color of the leaves. Water when the soil is almost completely dry. Like most Hoya species, it prefers drier conditions between waterings.

Use well-drained soil, preferably orchid bark mixed with perlite and potting soil. High humidity (60-70%) is appreciated but the plant adapts to normal indoor air. Ideal temperature 18-26°C.

Fertilize monthly during the growing season with a diluted fertilizer. Support the vines with trellis or let them hang freely. Easily propagated by stem cuttings with at least one node. Buy Hoya nicholsoniae 'New Guinea Ghost' online
