Philippine Hoya with canoe-shaped leaves and red-orange fragrant flowers

Hoya loheri is a gem among hoyas, first described by Kloppenburg in 1991. This delightful plant is native to the tropical climate of the Philippines where it thrives under the canopy of lush forests. In its natural habitat, it grows in rather dry and shady conditions.

This is a good hanging plant with long, thin leaves that can grow up to 8 centimeters long and 1.5 centimeters wide. The leaves tend to stand upright and curl lengthwise, giving them a canoe-like appearance. The species somewhat resembles H. kentiana but lacks the red-green leaf margin.

The plant needs to be quite old before it flowers. The flowers are red-orange and relatively small, star-shaped, and sweetly fragrant. For some inexplicable reason, it tends not to be attacked by insects such as mealybugs or spider mites. The plant tolerates a lot of heat and drought, be careful not to overwater it.

Care

Thrives in bright, indirect light. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings; be careful not to overwater. Use well-draining, airy soil. Ideal temperature 18-26 degrees Celsius. Excellent for hanging baskets where its canoe-shaped leaves can be appreciated. Buy Hoya loheri online!

When buying live plants, transport can sometimes affect the condition of the plant. We strive to ensure that all plants arrive in good health, but minor shipping damage, such as a torn leaf or bent stem, is sometimes unavoidable. Read more about our policy here.
