Hoya erythrina is a less common species within the Hoya genus, originally from Southeast Asia, where it thrives in tropical forests.
The leaves of Hoya erythrina are green, smooth and slightly fleshy. They have a slightly oval shape with pointed ends and can sometimes have subtle veins that add texture. The plant grows in a winding manner and is ideal for hanging baskets or as a climber on a support.
Botanical description.
Origin: Vietnam & Malacca Peninsula
Scientific name: Hoya Erythrina
Appearance.
Hoya erythrina is best known for its stunning flowers, which are deep red to dark red, hence the name "erythrina," which means "red" in Greek. The flowers are star-shaped and clustered, often with a waxy texture and a slightly sweet scent.
Care.
Hoya erythrina prefers bright, indirect light. During the winter months, sunny windows also count as this level of light in our latitudes. Let the soil dry out slightly between waterings, the plant can withstand shorter periods of drought thanks to its thick leaves. Use a light and well-drained soil mixture , for example a mixture of orchid bark, sphagnum moss and perlite.
Like many Hoyas , Hoya erythrina flowers from old peduncles (flower stalks), so never cut them off! The plant can bloom several times from the same spot. In addition, the red flowers are not only beautiful but also attract pollinators such as moths in their natural habitat. Buy Hoya erythrina online!
