Rare Hoya with Dramatically Graphic Black Veins from Thailand

Hoya callistophylla 'Black Cat' is particularly prized for its hard, leathery leaves with dark, almost black veins that create a strong and graphic pattern. The leaves grow up to 20 centimeters long, making the plant stand out even when it's not in bloom.

The species was described as recently as 2000 and is native to Borneo. The 'Black Cat' cultivar is believed to have originated in Thailand where it was first cultivated by the well-known Hoya nursery AhHoya, although its exact origin remains somewhat of a mystery.

This cultivar stands out due to a remarkable and rare phenomenon called the "vein bleed" effect, where the typically deep black or dark green veins appear to bleed into the surrounding leaf, giving the plant an extraordinary appearance that sets it apart from other porcelain flowers. The flowers have beige sepals with purple-red tips and a clear white corolla.

Care

Thrives in bright, indirect light. Allow the substrate to dry out slightly between waterings. Prefers high humidity and well-drained soil. Ideal temperature 18-26 degrees Celsius. Excellent for climbing supports or hanging baskets.
