Yellow Dragon Fruit with Sweet White Flesh, Productive Fruit Plant Perfect for Indoor Growing
Selenicereus megalanthus is a species of cactus whose fruit is known as yellow dragon fruit, pitahaya, or pitaya. Unlike the more common red dragon fruits, this species has a yellow skin and white flesh inside, full of many small black edible seeds. The pulp has a soft texture with a sweet and delicate taste and a pleasant aroma.
The species is native to Colombia, Peru & Ecuador.

Cacti of the genus Selenicereus originally came from Mexico and were subsequently introduced to other areas in Central America and the rest of the world. Today, they are cultivated in East and Southeast Asian countries such as Cambodia, Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Bangladesh, as well as in Okinawa, Hawaii, Israel, Spain, northern Australia, and southern China.
The plant has adapted to living in dry tropical climates with moderate rainfall and can tolerate temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius as well as short periods of frost, but will not survive long exposure to sub-zero temperatures.
Dragon fruit ripens on the plant approximately 30 to 45 days after flowering and can sometimes have 5 to 6 harvest cycles per year, making it a productive fruit plant. The flower often opens at night and must be hand-pollinated to set fruit, which is easily done by dabbing around the flower's stamens and pistil with a brush.
Care
Selenicereus megalanthus thrives indoors because it tolerates dry air very well. It prefers a bright location with some direct sun. Water moderately and allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Use well-draining cactus soil.
Ideal temperature 20-30 degrees Celsius, can tolerate short frost periods but not prolonged cold. Fertilize during the growing season with cactus fertilizer.
For fruit production, hand-pollination of the night-blooming flowers is required. Provide the plant with climbing support such as a moss pole or trellis for best growth and fruit production. Buy yellow dragon fruit online!
