The black orchid!
Epicattleya 'Black Comet' is a cross between Guarianthe (Cattleya) bowringiana and Prosthechea (Encyclia) cochleata. Among all the color forms this cross produces, an extra dark-flowered plant has been selected and propagated vegetatively.
The plants have almond-shaped pseudobulbs with two elongated leaves. The stem emerges between the leaves and can bear flowers for a very long time, one or two flowers at a time. The plants can grow large as they readily produce new shoots.
Care
Can be grown mounted or in a pot. Mounted plants need much more frequent watering. Thrives in bright light but not scorching sun. Regular feeding during growth. Requires a short dormant period with less fertilizer and water in late autumn and early winter.
Ideal temperature 18-26°C. Water when the substrate has almost dried out.
