Leaf Cactus Hybrid with Reddish Stem Tips and Large Red-Purple Summer Flowers

Disocactus 'Red Tip' is a beautiful leaf cactus hybrid with elongated, thin stems. The sides have a wavy shape with small transparent spines. The name comes from the fact that the tip and the last 10 to 15 centimeters of the stems get a beautiful red glow in sunlight.

The flattened stems open up red or bronze at the ends. Each segment becomes greener as it elongates, arches, and eventually hangs down. If the plant thrives in your care, it will bloom in the summer with large red-purple flowers that emerge from the sides of the stems.

'Red Tip' belongs to the broader horticultural group around Disocactus ackermannii rather than being the wild species itself. Its exact species and hybrid parentage have not been determined.

Care

Give the plant strong filtered daylight and a controlled amount of mild direct sun, preferably near an east-facing window. Hot midday sun can make the entire surface yellowish-red, bleach it, or cause cork-like burns.

During active growth, water when the top third of the substrate has dried, but before the root ball has dried completely. Use well-draining cactus or orchid soil.

Maintain a consistent indoor temperature during growth. Once buds have formed, placement and temperature should be kept stable, otherwise the buds may drop. Ideal temperature 18-26 degrees Celsius. Perfect as a hanging plant.
