The cone palm, despite its name, is not a palm tree!
The cone palm grows very slowly and can become very old. The leaves are hard and leathery with an exotic appearance. The genus Cycas is among the oldest and is considered in many ways a living fossil. Cycas revoluta is the northernmost species and is relatively cold-resistant (down to -6C).
Botanical description.
Cycas revoluta originates from the southern Japanese islands. The species is the most commonly found in production of all the cone palm species. All species, as well as the sago palm (cycas revoluta), are highly toxic if eaten.
Care.
The cone palm often thrives in a normal room environment and fairly dry air. Avoid placing the plant in direct sunlight, which can burn the leaves. The plant can be placed outside in the summer, but brought inside when frost arrives. The soil should be kept moist and never allowed to dry out completely. Buy cone palm online!
