Cryptanthus zonatus is a small and hardy plant with a ribbed pattern.
Cryptanthus zonatus is a bromeliad that typically measures between 20 and 30 cm in diameter. It is native to eastern Brazil, where it grows in dry savannah areas, rather than in rainforests like many other bromeliad species that grow as epiphytes. The sturdy, thick leaves act as water reservoirs, helping the plant survive in the drier environment.
Botanical description.
This species is originally from northeastern Brazil . It is classified as a bromeliad and grows as a lithophyte (grows on rocks). Lito = stone in Greek.

Care.
Cryptanthus thrives best in a dry place with lots of direct sunlight. To bring out the black leaf color, it needs a lot of light. A place by a south or west window with sun all day is good. In winter, the leaves turn green again if it does not receive additional lighting from a powerful grow light. It tolerates drying out better than being too wet, and should be planted in a clean mineral substrate such as cactus soil.
Appearance.
Cryptanthus zonatus has a dark brown to black base color, adorned with distinct white bands that give it a zebra-like appearance. After the plant flowers, the mother plant slowly begins to wither, while many small side shoots grow along the edges. Are you looking for an easy-care and exotic small houseplant?
