Begonia sp. Julau är sannolikt endemisk till Julau-området i Sarawak på Borneo, där den trivs i den skuggiga, konstant fuktiga undervegetationen i tropiska skogar. Liksom många borneanska begonior har den utvecklats i en miljö med hög luftfuktighet och svagt ljus, vilket format dess distinkta anpassningar.

Denna begonia får asymmetriska, ofta ängelvinge-formade eller rundade blad. Unga blad framträder i en djup, nästan svart vinröd eller glänsande mörkgrön ton med slående rosa prickar eller markeringar.
Bladen är relativt små, cirka 1 till 3 centimeter långa, men tätt packade på en kompakt planta som vanligtvis håller sig under cirka 38 centimeter i höjd.
Det finns noterade variationer av sorten, (Type 1 och Type 2), där Type 1 är särskilt eftertraktad.
Skötsel
Trivs i halvskugga till skugga med hög luftfuktighet (70-80% eller mer), vilket gör den perfekt för terrarium eller växtskåp. Undvik direkt sol.
Håll jorden jämnt fuktig men aldrig blöt. Använd ett luftigt, väldränerat substrat. Idealtemperatur 20-26 grader Celsius. Gödsla sparsamt under växtsäsongen.
Undvik att vattna direkt på bladen, som lätt får fläckar eller kan börja ruttna om de förblir våta.
