Newly discovered Sulawesi begonia with red young leaves that darken with age

Begonia ignita is a recently described species endemic to Sulawesi in Indonesia, where it grows in its natural environment in moist forests with very high humidity. The species epithet refers to the flame-colored petals (Latin: igneus - flame-colored).

suhrimaniana

This begonia is remarkable for its symmetrical, heart-shaped leaves that are bright red with yellow edges when young, turning glossy green and even black as they mature. It stands out from all other Indonesian begonias by being the only known species with bright orange flowers.

We recommend cultivation in terrariums, greenhouses, or domes where the temperature does not fall below 20 degrees Celsius and humidity is high.

Care

Thrives in partial shade with very high humidity (80-90%). Keep the soil evenly moist but well-drained. Minimum temperature 20 degrees Celsius. Perfect for terrariums or greenhouses. Fertilize sparingly during the growing season.

Shipping Policy

When buying live plants, transport can sometimes affect the condition of the plant. We strive to ensure that all plants arrive in good health, but minor shipping damage, such as a torn leaf or bent stem, is sometimes unavoidable. Read more about our policy here.
