Nervkallan is an easy-care Anthurium with velvety leaves

The leaves of the nerve calla are dark, velvety green matte with silvery veins that shine brightly against the background, even more so than in the similar A. crystallinum.

The mature leaves are surprisingly hard and leathery. This makes the plant extra resistant to drier indoor air, and is therefore perhaps the easiest to care for of all velvet-leaved anthurium varieties. In nature, it is exposed to drought for longer periods, so it is built to cope with slightly tougher conditions.

The inflorescence sticks up above the leaves, and if pollinated, small orange berries form that remain for a long time.

Botanical Description

Anthurium clarinervium comes from Chiapas in southern Mexico, where it grows in tropical and seasonally dry forests, often directly on limestone cliffs between 400–1000 meters in altitude.

The plant only grows to about 30–40 cm tall, but the leaves can grow up to 25 cm long and have a distinctive shape. They are slightly cup-shaped, with a deep notch at the base where the “ears” of older leaves often overlap.

Nervous origin

Care

The Nervous Calla prefers to grow in a well-drained soil, e.g. our Peat-free soil similar to those used for orchids. Nervkalla likes to stand in an orchid pot which gives the roots oxygen and prevents overwatering . Place the potted plant in indirect bright sunlight or use a grow light. Let the soil dry out so that the top layer of soil is dry while it is still slightly moist down below when you stick your finger in.

Anthurium is a popular houseplant and is particularly sought after for its large, thick leaves with beautiful shiny veins. Like most Anthurium varieties, the anthurium often flowers indoors, making it easy to propagate this tropical plant. Buy anthurium online!
