Known for its unique, zebra-patterned stems that elegantly support the large, arrow-shaped leaves.
Alocasia zebrina, also known as Zebra Shield , is a fascinating plant that immediately catches the eye with its unique, arrow-shaped leaves and distinctive stripes reminiscent of a zebra. The long, slender stems help Alocasia zebrina reach sunlight in its natural habitat of tropical rainforests.
Care: Grow in a well-drained soil mix with elements of perlite and bark, e.g. our aroid mix to ensure good drainage. Do best in bright but indirect sunlight. Avoid strong sunlight which can cause brown leaves on Alocasia.
Botanical description
The species is called A locasia zebrina and it originates from the Philippines. The species is believed to be endangered in the wild.
Appearance
The leaves of the Zebra Shield are arrow-shaped and can grow up to 30 cm long. They have an elegant shape and a deep green color that contrasts beautifully with the zebra-striped stems.
Zebra shield grows best in temperatures above 18°C. As it is a tropical plant, it can benefit from regular leaf spraying, partly to reduce the risk of pests such as spider mites and partly to keep the leaves clean and ready to catch the sun's rays.
If you are looking for a new addition or maybe just a tropical ornamental plant for your home, the zebra shield will definitely impress with its exotic leaves and stems. Buy Alocasia Zebrina, zebra shield online!
