Alocasia 'Venom'
Alocasia 'Venom' is a mutant of Alocasia 'Amazonica' discovered by Mason Lee at Mason Plants in South Korea around 2019 and commercialized from 2022. The name 'Venom' was chosen because the leaf shape reminded Lee of the Marvel character Venom.
The plant is a mutation of the classic cross between Alocasia sanderiana and Alocasia longiloba 'Watsoniana', the same origin as the famous 'Amazonica' and its many "cousins" such as 'Polly', 'Mortefontanensis' and others.
The foliage has strong silver-white veins against a dark green to almost black background with distinctly serrated, wavy edges that give an aggressive, dramatic appearance.
Botanical description
As a mutant of 'Amazonica', 'Venom' shares the same hybrid origin but with more pronounced, dramatic leaf characteristics. The plant belongs to the Araceae family and represents one of the newer selections within the prolific 'Amazonica' complex.
Care
Thrives in bright, indirect light. Water when the soil has dried slightly but avoid complete desiccation. Requires high humidity (60-80%) and well-draining soil. Ideal temperature 18-25°C.
The plant may go dormant in winter and drop leaves, reduce watering during this dormancy period. Fertilize monthly during the growing season. Buy Alocasia 'Venom' online!
