Alocasia princeps 'Purple Cloak' originates from the tropical rainforests of Borneo. The plant thrives on well-drained slopes and ridges at altitudes up to 1200 meters.
The plant was first described in the late 19th century and has a long history in botanical research. This Alocasia is known for its impressive leaves that have a dramatic dark green, almost shiny surface. The underside of the leaves are often purple, giving this cultivar the nickname "Purple Cloak". The name "princeps" comes from Latin and means "the foremost" or "noble".

Alocasia princeps 'Purple Cloak' is a robust plant that can grow between 80 and 180 cm tall. It grows from a stout rhizome (stem) and usually develops four large leaves at a time. Its erect leaf stalks can grow up to 1.6 meters long!
Care advice
Prefers bright, indirect light, but can also handle partial shade. In winter, sunny windows also count as 'indirect light' at our northern latitudes. Keep the soil evenly slightly moist. A well-drained, airy soil mix is recommended, preferably with elements of perlite and coconut fiber, like our peat-free soil
