Botanical Description
Scientific name.
Alocasia micholitziana, the cultivar is 'frydek' which has velvety leaves. Frydek is probably the same cultivar as the one previously called 'green velvet'.
Origin.
The species Alocasia micholitziana originates from the tropical islands of the Philippines around the Luzon archipelago.

Leaf.
The leaves are arrow-shaped with a deep, dark green color. They have a velvety texture and prominent, white to light green veins that create a beautiful contrast. The leaves can grow up to 30–60 cm long and about 20–30 cm wide.
Growth pattern.
Alocasia micholitziana grows from a tuber and forms a compact clump of leaves. It can reach a height of about 60–90 cm in optimal conditions. The plant has an upright growth habit and spreads slowly by underground rhizomes. The rhizomes form small tubers, called 'corms', which are used to propagate Alocasia.
