Alocasia longiloba 'Purple'; Classic form with pink leaves
Alocasia longiloba 'Purple' is an elegant Alocasia cultivar with dark and spectacularly glossy pink leaves. Turn the leaf over and discover the deep purple underside with raised vein patterns. It's this dramatic contrast that makes the 'Purple' so sought after. A very unusual Alocasia, a must-have for collectors!
Botanical description.
The species A. longiloba is a fascinating species from the rainforests and swamps of Southeast Asia. It is known for its extremely variable leaves, which can range from entirely green to deep purple on the underside, explaining how this purple cultivar came about.
In nature, Alocasia longiloba grows everywhere from the rainforest floor to cliffs and ravines, and the species is so variable that botanists are still debating how many "forms" actually exist. They hybridize easily with each other, creating new variations. The name "longiloba" refers to the species' characteristic long basal lobes that give the leaves their elegant arrow shape.
Care
Bright, indirect light. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings. When repotting, use a well-draining soil with bark and perlite, such as our aroid soil. A pot with many drainage holes is recommended, e.g., an orchid pot. Thrives in normal room temperature and appreciates a little extra humidity. Buy Alocasia longiloba Purple online!
