Alocasia antoro velvet has not yet been officially described, but it will probably be called Alocasia chienlii.
Alocasia antoro velvet is the only known variety of alocasia with velvety leaves. Currently the name "Antoro velvet" is widely used. However, it will probably be named after photographer and botanist Ch'ien Lee who discovered several species in Indonesia.
Botanical description
The scientific name of Alocasia 'antoro velvet' is Alocasia chienlii. It is a rare species from Nanga Mahap in southern Borneo, where it is found mainly on rocky slopes in the rainforest.

Appearance.
Adult leaves of Alocasian can become very dark and sometimes almost black. The hairy, dark color and shine of the leaves give this species a very unusual appearance. The leaves can grow to about 30 cm, are arrow-shaped and have dark red to purple petioles.
Care.
Alocasia antoro velvet needs well-drained soil. Water the houseplant regularly when humidity is relatively low, such as in winter. In summer, the soil can be moist all the time. A bright spot without direct sunlight is suitable. Propagate the plant by cutting off shoots that emerge around the soil surface.
