Four-colored variegated agave with spiky leaves in green, cream-yellow, and red, very easy to care for

Agave lophantha 'Quadricolor' is a striking variegated agave whose cultivar name means "four-colored," referring to the leaf variegation in four tones. The leaves combine dark green, light green, cream-yellow, and a reddish border along the spiky edges.

The parent species Agave lophantha is native to the coastal regions of southern Texas and northeastern Mexico, where it grows at elevations below 100 meters.

Care

Agaves are not difficult plants to grow. If you are the type of person who likes to fuss over houseplants and water them frequently, agave is probably not the plant for you, but if you like to place it and forget about it, and have a sunny window, agave might be just right.

Thrives in a bright location with direct sunlight. Water sparingly and allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Use well-draining cactus or succulent soil.

Agaves generally do not need to be repotted every year. Most species in cultivation grow slowly and take a long time to outgrow their pots. It is also best to handle the plant as little as possible because they do not like to be disturbed. When repotting, replace old soil with new and anchor the plant firmly in the pot, but do not plant the agave too deeply, as this can encourage stem rot.

Ideal temperature 18-28 degrees Celsius. Water very sparingly during the winter. Buy Agave lophantha 'quadricolor' online!
