Cuttings, start with a small plant

If you like propagating plants, then we have something for you! We sell a lot of cuttings from many of our different plants, from the more classic plants to the more rare species. Cuttings are a great way to get more plants, and it's easier than you might think. With the right care and a little love, you can watch your cuttings grow into large plants.

When it comes to cuttings, there are a couple of different types. The most common type is top cuttings, which are the branches or tops that you cut off from a plant to get a new plant (these often start growing quickly). Then we have stem cuttings, which are a piece of the plant's stem that is put into rooting medium to start growing. Examples of popular plants that we sell include Monstera cuttings, Monstera variegata cuttings, Elephant Ear cuttings and even slightly more exotic options like Climbing Calla and Porcelain Flower.

How to root cuttings

We prefer to root cuttings in sphagnum moss, especially when it comes to stem cuttings. The moss keeps the moisture at a comfortable level and creates the perfect microclimate for your cuttings to start growing. Another popular way to root certain cuttings, such as cactus cuttings, is in water. However, white moss or 'sphagnum' is a good choice for cuttings that can develop roots quickly, which is often seen with plants such as Monstera or Porcelain Flower. When it comes to Alocasia cuttings, we prefer to root these in perlite, especially when working with tubers or corms, its roots absolutely thrive best in a very well-drained growing medium.

When you put cuttings in the right medium (and maybe a little patience), you can create small, beautiful plants in pots.
