Tea is produced from the young leaves of Camellia sinensis .
This variety is bred to be so cold-resistant that we can grow it outdoors in Sweden! The leaves can be used to make homemade tea!
All teas, white, green, oolong and black, come from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. It is the processing of the leaves after harvest that creates the different types of tea. Tea was once so valuable that it was used as currency in some parts of Asia. It has also been the subject of trade and conflict throughout history, including the famous "Tea Party" that led to the American Revolution in 1773.
Botanical description.
The tea bush Camellia sinensis comes from the Eastern Himalayas to Eastern China and northern Indo-China.

Appearance.
The leaves are green and shiny, with a fine texture. The small, white flowers appear in winter and are sweetly scented. Tea grows bush-shaped and can reach a height of up to 2 meters under optimal conditions.
Care.
Plant Camellia sinensis 'Tea Bush' in a well-drained soil mix like our peat-free soil mix . It thrives best in indirect sun, and requires regular watering to keep the soil evenly moist as a potted plant. In the open field, plant the plant next to a nearby building. This will give it some waste heat during the coldest months of winter. Cover the tea plant with jute. This variety can be grown outdoors from about Uppsala downwards.
Whether you are an enthusiastic tea grower or looking for a beautiful and useful plant to brighten up your home or garden, Camellia sinensis 'Tea Bush' will be a lot of fun to grow. Ready to grow your own tea at home? Buy Camellia sinensis 'Tea Bush' online!
