Exotic fruit tree with large, beautiful leaves and is relatively easy to care for
Tamarillo originally comes from South America but is now cultivated in many tropical and subtropical areas around the world. Tamarillo grows incredibly fast, thrives indoors in a sunny spot, and can reach a height of up to 3-5 meters.
Botanical Description
Solanum betaceum "tamarillo" originates from the high-altitude regions of the Andes in South America, mainly Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia. The leaves are large, heart-shaped, and dark green. They can grow up to 30 cm long and 20 cm wide, giving the tree a lush appearance.
The flowers are small, pink to light purple, and fragrant. They grow in clusters and develop into fruits after pollination.
The fruits are egg-shaped and can be red, orange, or yellow when ripe. They are about 5-10 cm long and have juicy, tart pulp with small, edible seeds. The taste is a mixture of tomato and passion fruit.
Care
Tamarillo thrives best in warm climates and needs at least 6-8 hours of direct sun each day. It prefers well-drained soil and regular watering. Tamarillo is sensitive to frost and should be protected from temperatures below 10°C. Buy Tree Tomato online!
