Care

You can essentially not overwater a Sarracenia; it's not a problem for the plant to constantly sit in water. We recommend placing the pot in a tray of water and ensuring there's always enough. Unlike many other carnivorous plants, tap water is fine for pitcher plants.

Keep the plant in a bright location, which is important for both growth and color, either by a window or outdoors. It also appreciates a humid climate.

Sarracenia can tolerate temperatures between -10 and 40 degrees Celsius, making a spot by a pond an ideal outdoor placement. Use nutrient-poor substrate and never fertilize; like all carnivorous plants, it is adapted to nutrient-poor soil and gets its nutrients from the insects it catches.

Winter dormancy is mandatory; towards autumn and winter, the plant goes into dormancy, the old pitchers turn brown, and no new ones are formed. In spring or early summer, growth resumes and new pitchers develop.
