Easy-care plant with broad, dagger-shaped, summer-green leaves, perfect for beginners
Dracaena masoniana (synonym Sansevieria masoniana), known as "Whale Fin" or "Shark's Fin", is a species of Dracaena native to Africa and originally collected in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It was initially known in cultivation under the cultivar name 'Mason Congo'.
Sansevieria masoniana 'Whale Fin' has very broad leaves compared to its relatives. The dagger-shaped leaves are also beautifully patterned with a summer-green background and light green markings. The plant is often grown as a single large, stiff leaf in a pot, which has given it its characteristic nickname.
This plant was previously classified in the genus Sansevieria, but after genetic studies, it was determined to belong to the genus Dracaena.
Care
This is an extremely easy-care plant and perfect for beginners. It thrives in bright, filtered light or shade and very rarely requires watering. Let the soil dry out completely between waterings; overwatering is the most common cause of problems.
Use well-draining soil, preferably cactus or succulent soil. Water sparingly, especially in winter. Ideal temperature 18-26 degrees Celsius. Requires minimal care.
