Variegated and very decorative pepper plant.
Decorative climbing to creeping pepper plant from Southeast Asia and India with beautifully white-variegated leaves. It grows quite slowly but is at the same time robust.
Botanical description.
The real P. sylvaticum is, to be honest, pretty bland. It doesn't have the white leaf markings or the same leaf shape. Unfortunately, the name has been misused so often in the plant collecting world that the incorrect pictures have crowded out the correct scientific illustrations.
So what exactly is this plant?
Unfortunately, we don't know for sure. There are over 1000 described Piper species and several dozen known but not yet described. Two possible names for this species are Piper sylvestre and Piper maculaphyllum . This is an unusual variegated variety of this plant of unclear origin.
Care.
The plant thrives best in a warm and humid environment, but also does well at normal room temperatures. For best results, it should be given something to climb on, such as a trellis or plant support. It also works in a hanging basket or as a ground cover for larger areas.
Give it plenty of light but avoid direct sun. It can also do well in slightly shadier locations, but will grow more slowly. The temperature should not drop below 18°C.
During the growth period, the plant can be fertilized sparingly with green plant nutrition at half the dose, here "less is more". Replant in well-drained and nutrient-poor soil. Keep the soil slightly moist but avoid it getting wet for longer periods. Buy Piper sylvaticum variegata online!
