Storväxande karibisk philodendron med enorma blad
Philodendron giganteum är en imponerande storväxande philodendron som beskrevs vetenskapligt av Heinrich Wilhelm Schott 1856. Arten förekommer naturligt från Karibien till Brasilien (Pará) och växer främst i våt tropisk biotop. Den är hemiepifytisk och antingen terrestrisk eller epipetrisk, vilket betyder att den kan växa på klippor.

Som namnet antyder är detta en växt med stora blad, den maximala bladstorleken enligt tillgänglig vetenskaplig information är cirka 190 x 96 centimeter. Arten kännetecknas av ett klarrött hölsterblad och korta internoder.
Arten förekommer i ett brett område i Karibien, inklusive öarna Dominica, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Montserrat, Puerto Rico, Saint Kitts, Saint Vincent, Trinidad och Tobago samt Jungfruöarna, och vidare till nordöstra Sydamerika.
Botanisk beskrivning
Växten är en så kallad "self-header" och klättrar inte, utan bildar en rosett av blad direkt från basen.
Philodendron giganteum finns ofta tillgänglig i handeln eftersom den odlas genom vävnadsodling (kloning). Det är dock värt att notera att vävnadsodling ibland kan förändra växtens utseende något.
Skötsel
Trivs i ljust, indirekt ljus men tolererar en hel del skugga, växer dock snabbare i halvljust filtrerat ljus. Håll jorden jämnt fuktig med väldränerad jord. Idealtemperatur 18-26 grader Celsius med hög luftfuktighet.
