Paphiopedilum sukhakulii, one of the most iconic slipper orchids
This orchid is best known for its spectacular flowers, which can be up to 10 cm in diameter. The flowers have a green and white striped "helmet" and an elegant maroon "slipper". The petals are dotted with hints of burgundy, which reinforces its unique character. A mature plant usually produces one flower per stem, and these can last for several weeks.
The leaves are as impressive as the flowers, with a marbled pattern of light and dark green shades, making the plant decorative even outside the flowering season.
Care:
Paphiopedilum sukhakulii is relatively easy to care for for an orchid and thrives at room temperature. It prefers indirect light and an evenly moist, but well-drained soil. The plant should be watered with lime-free water, and the humidity around it should be kept high for best results. Regular fertilizing with orchid fertilizer during the growing season will help it bloom beautifully.
