Small fern, perfect for terrariums
A compact growing fern with arching stems covered in small, round leaves. The plant reaches between 40 and 80 centimeters in height, in extreme cases up to 1 meter, and thrives both as a houseplant and in terrariums.
The species is originally native to northeastern Australia and the Himalayan foothills and is considered naturalized on the central east coast of New South Wales. It can establish itself in the ground, on rocks, and other plants, provided the location has ideal moisture and light levels.
Care
Keep the soil moist but do not let the plant stand in water or let the soil dry out completely. The plant likes constant humidity but does not thrive if buried in soggy substrate, which makes it important to choose a nutrient-rich substrate that retains moisture but also drains well.
Coconut fiber is a perfect base; it is light and stays moist. Add something like orchid bark or perlite for drainage and you have a winner, such as our peat-free soil.
Thrives in bright but indirect light; it naturally grows under tree canopies in the shade. Bright but indirect light is the gold standard, but it tolerates a wide range of conditions:
Ideal temperature 18-24°C. Prefers high humidity but adapts to normal indoor air. Fertilize monthly during the growing season with diluted fertilizer. Buy Nephrolepis cordifolia online!
