This complex hybrid was hybridized in Victorian England and was first mentioned as early as 1881.
Nepenthes × Mojito is a modern recreation of one of the oldest and most famous pitcher plants, Nepenthes × Dyeriana.
The hybrid produces extremely large, colorful pitchers under good conditions. The pitchers grow to about 30 centimeters long, but there are reports of pitchers approaching 40 centimeters. The pitchers are light in color with red spots.
The plant becomes enormous in proportion to the size of the pitchers, reaching a diameter of 60 centimeters to 1 meter. From about 50 centimeters in diameter it begins to climb, requiring a plant support .
Botanical description
Nepenthes × Mojito shares the same parental hybrids as the historic Nepenthes × Dyeriana, making this amazing hybrid available again. The original was created during the Victorian era.
The hybrid combines traits from four different Nepenthes species, each contributing their own unique characteristics to the end result, resulting in a robust hybrid with spectacular pitchers.
As a member of the Nepenthaceae family, this is a carnivorous plant that uses its pitchers to capture insects and other small animals that provide the plant with nutrition.
Care
Nepenthes × Mojito is less light-requiring than other Nepenthes varieties. It still needs a very bright location but does not tolerate direct sun.
Keep the substrate evenly moist but not wet. Provide the plant with a support when it reaches about 50 centimeters in diameter. This supports the natural climbing growth and helps produce larger pitchers.
Maintain high humidity, preferably above 60%. Temperatures between 20-30°C are optimal. Use nutrient-poor soil such as sphagnum mixed with perlite or a special Nepenthes mix. Buy Nepenthes Mojito online!
