We work with a network of pioneering carbon removal companies that have been vetted by the commerce platform Shopify.
Powerful hybrid with contrast-rich patterned pitchers that thrive in cooler temperatures
Nepenthes × 'Sam' is a primary hybrid between Nepenthes talangensis and Nepenthes ventricosa. From N. ventricosa, it inherits robust and fast growth, while N. talangensis contributes contrast-rich patterned pitchers and a bright red peristome ("lip") on fresh pitchers. On older pitchers, the peristome becomes dark.
The pitchers grow to about 20 centimeters long but usually remain slightly smaller. Despite the large pitchers, this is a compact-growing Nepenthes that only reaches about 40 centimeters in diameter.
Since both parent species occur up to the highlands (N. talangensis at 1800-2500 meters, N. ventricosa at 1000-2000 meters), it prefers cooler temperatures and can very well be kept outdoors in summer.
Care
Thrives in very bright conditions, preferably with direct sunlight. In summer, protect from strong midday sun. In winter, as bright as possible, otherwise no pitchers will be produced.
Always keep moist but DO NOT place in standing water.
Feel free to move it outdoors in summer to a sheltered but bright location. Nighttime temperatures down to about 12°C are not harmful and promote vigorous growth. Should not exceed 30°C for extended periods during the day.
Only repot in nutrient-poor substrate such as sphagnum mixed with perlite. DO NOT fertilize the substrate; fertilization occurs through the pitchers. Buy Nepenthes × 'Sam' online
