The cultivar 'Lemon Lime' stands out with contrasting yellow leaf veins.
Marantas are an arrowroot (Marantaceae) that naturally occurs on the east coast of Brazil.
The plant grows from an underground rhizome that acts as a water and nutrient reservoir. It reaches a height of about 30-40 centimeters and has a more creeping than upright growth habit.
Like many other Maranta species, this plant exhibits nyctynasy, the leaves moving during the day by folding up in the evening and opening in the morning, giving rise to the name "prayer plant".
Botanical description
Maranta leuconeura belongs to the Marantaceae family and comes from the Atlantic rainforest on the east coast of Brazil.
In addition to the 'lemon lime' cultivar, there are several other popular varieties, but all are actually the same species.

The rootstock (rhizome) is an important adaptation that allows the plant to survive dry periods and recover from damage to the above-ground parts.
Care
Place the Maranta in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight which can fade the beautiful yellow veins and damage the leaves.
Keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Water when the top few inches feel dry. The rhizome helps the plant handle minor variations in moisture.
Does best in high humidity. Place on a capillary mat or group with other plants to increase humidity.
Use a well-drained, nutrient-rich soil. A mixture of coconut fiber and perlite works well, such as our peat-free soil.
Temperatures between 18-24°C are optimal. Avoid cold drafts and large temperature changes. Buy Maranta 'Lemon Lime' online!
