From the limestone cliffs of Borneo to your window

Hoya callistophylla is particularly prized for its hard, leathery leaves with dark, almost black veins. The leaves grow up to 20 cm long and have a strong, graphic pattern that makes the plant stand out even when it is not in bloom.

The flowers come in spherical clusters of 20–40 flowers. They are pink with white centers and have a sweet, mild scent that is especially noticeable in the evening.

Botanical description

Hoya callistophylla comes from northern Borneo, specifically the area around Nabawan in the state of Sabah (Malaysia).

There it grows on steep limestone cliffs in one of the world's most species-rich areas, side by side with pitcher plants, orchids and other members of plant families such as Hoya and Dischidia.

Care:

Use a well-draining soil mix. A mixture of orchid bark, perlite and peat moss works well, such as our aroid soil.

Hoya callistophylla is a climbing plant that likes to wind itself up supports or other plants. It can grow quite quickly under the right conditions and can reach several meters in length.

The plant can be propagated by taking cuttings. Cut a piece of the stem that has at least one node and some aerial roots, and plant it in a separate pot with fresh soil mix. Buy Hoya callistophylla online!
