One of the easiest houseplants to care for
Zamioculcas is an aroid from Africa that grows to about 2 meters in height in the wild but usually remains smaller as a houseplant. The scientific name refers to the plant's resemblance to Zamia, a genus of cone palms, although the species are not closely related at all.
The plant has underground tubers where it stores water and nutrients, making it extremely hardy and undemanding. Zamiacallan is one of the easiest houseplants to care for, requiring little water, little light and little fertilizer, and despite its tropical origins, it is not sensitive to dry air or cooler temperatures.
Botanical description
Zamioculcas zamiifolia belongs to the Araceae family and is native to Africa where it has developed its water-storing tubers as an adaptation to periods of drought. The tubers allow the plant to survive longer periods without watering.
Care
Thrives in a bright place without direct sunlight. Also does well in darker corners but grows more slowly or not at all. Do not water until the pot is completely dry, at least on the surface. In the summer you can water a little more and it will grow faster and new shoots will develop better.
Fertilize only sparingly, every two weeks with a standard houseplant fertilizer in half concentration is sufficient. From early winter to spring it does not need fertilization because it does not grow then.
Use well-drained soil. Ideal temperature 18-26°C but tolerates cooler temperatures. Propagate by dividing tubers or leaf cuttings. Buy Wardrobe Flower online!
