Climbing ficus is an extremely fast-growing and durable climbing plant, perfect for terrariums.
Originally from Southeast Asia, Ficus pumila has now been introduced worldwide. This vigorous plant grows both as a ground cover and climber, forming dense mats with its small, heart-shaped leaves.
The plant is incredibly adaptable, attaching itself with its aerial roots to practically any surface. In nature, it mainly climbs trees, but it can also grow on rocks, wooden walls and even plastic panels in greenhouses.
Ficus pumila branches heavily and quickly creates a dense, green mat, making it a popular terrarium plant for those who want a green background or densely vegetated bottom quickly. However, its rapid growth means that it requires regular pruning to keep it under control.
Botanical description
Ficus pumila belongs to the Moraceae family (mulberry family) and is a native species from Southeast Asia. Due to its adaptability and rapid growth, the species has been introduced to tropical regions around the world where it has become an invasive species.

As a member of the ficus genus, it shares many characteristics with its relatives, but unlike the large ficus trees, the climbing fig remains relatively small with small leaves measuring 2-4 centimeters. The plant undergoes a morphological change as it matures, where the adult leaves become larger and the plant can produce fruits.
In its juvenile stage, which is when it is usually grown as a houseplant, it retains its small, densely packed leaves that make it so attractive for terrarium and indoor use.
Care
Ficus pumila is extremely easy to care for and tolerates a wide range of light conditions, from bright indirect light to partial shade. It can even handle some periods of direct light, although this may make the leaves a little paler.
Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy. The plant can tolerate both slightly drier and wetter conditions, making it perfect for beginners.
The most important aspect of care is regular pruning. The plant grows very quickly and can easily overwhelm other plants in the terrarium or become too large for its space. Cut the plant back regularly to maintain the desired shape and size.
The plant thrives in normal room temperature and does not require any special humidity, although it appreciates slightly higher humidity. It is also relatively resistant to pests and diseases. Buy climbing ficus Ficus pumila online!
