Delosperma echinatum is a small succulent shrub from South Africa with cylindrical leaves and cute little flowers
Delosperma produces vibrant yellow flowers during the summer that create a beautiful contrast against the green, cucumber-like leaves.
It reaches a height of about 20-30 centimeters and has upright or creeping stems.
This is a very easy-care succulent that thrives on a little neglect, especially for those who tend to overwater. It is perfect for beginners and requires minimal care.
Botanical description
Delosperma echinatum is native to South Africa where it grows in open areas of bushland from the Greater Addo Elephant National Park southwest to Kariega and Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape Province.
Care
Place in full sun or very bright location. Insufficient sunlight can lead to leggy stems and an unkempt appearance. The plant can be grown outdoors from spring to autumn.
Water infrequently and allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. Overwatering is the most common problem. The plant thrives best in dry conditions and needs very little water, especially in winter.
Use very well-drained cactus and succulent soil with 50-70% mineral gravel such as coarse sand, pumice or perlite. Choose pots with drainage holes.
The plant prefers low humidity and can suffer in a humid environment. Good air circulation is important to avoid moisture accumulation on the leaves. Fertilize with half strength once a month during the growing season. Buy Delosperma echinatum online!
