Tropical shrub from China to Indochina reaching 1-3 meters in height
Ardisia gigantifolia is, as the name reveals, a somewhat larger terrarium plant. This species has elliptical to ovate leaves that are 25-48 centimeters long and 5-19 centimeters wide. As an adult, it produces white to pinkish flowers, 4-5 millimeters wide with five petals.
Botanical Description
Ardisia gigantifolia (not Labisia as some sources claim) belongs to the family Primulaceae and grows naturally in moist forests, on mountain slopes and in valleys, humid ravines, along watercourses, and in shady, damp places at altitudes between 1000-1500 meters. The species occurs in Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hainan, Jiangxi, Yunnan, as well as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The plant spreads through runners (stolons) and has angular branches. Flowering occurs April-July, fruit ripening October-December.
Care
Thrives in semi-shade to shade with high humidity. Keep the soil evenly moist but well-drained. Ideal temperature 18-26°C. Suitable for large terrariums or as a potted plant in humid environments.
Fertilize monthly during the growing season. Propagated by seeds, cuttings, or runners. Buy Ardisia gigantifolia!
