Thick, leathery and dark leaves with a velvety texture
Mature leaves on this Anthurium develop a deep green to almost black color, often dark almost black green, deep burgundy black or almost black stems. The leaves are distinctly heart-shaped with symmetrical lobes. The texture is usually thick and velvety, often with a deep matte to slightly glossy finish. In cultivation, the leaves generally grow to 50cm+, adding to the plant's impressive beauty. Perfect for the collector of dark plants!
Botanical description
Anthurium 'Queen Of Hearts' belongs to the section Cardiolonchium, which includes many velvety-leaved, heart-shaped anthurium species. Its exact origin is unknown but it has been hypothesized that it arose as a spontaneous mutation in tissue culture of Anthurium 'Ace Of Spades'.
Care.
Just like many other velvet-textured anthurium varieties, the care of this variety can be somewhat more challenging. Especially when it comes to humidity and watering. The plant should not be placed above radiators or near open windows and drafts. It should be placed in relatively bright light but not in direct sunlight. It can adapt to normal humidity but risks brown leaf edges in the dry winter air. In the summer, we often have high enough humidity in Sweden for most species to thrive.
Leave planted in a very well-draining soil mixture, such as our aroid soil. Water so that the substrate is kept moist almost all the time. Make sure the pot allows plenty of air to reach the roots, such as orchid pots. Fertilize with a very diluted nutrient spring to autumn. Propagate by dividing cuttings from the base or by seeds.
