Anthurium papillaminum – Velvet leaves from the rainforests of Panama.
Anthurium papillaminum is an aroid from Panama with deep green, velvety leaves and a very elegant form. It grows at heights of up to 100m and grows in the ground. The closest related species is Anthurium crystallinum whose main difference is an epiphytic growth habit.
The leaves of Anthurium papillaminum are elongated. The upper side is velvety green and matte, the underside is pale olive green. The matte surface is covered with microscopic bumps, which gives this variety its unusual texture.
The leaf stalks are upright or slightly sloping. They are around 15-30 cm long and narrow, usually dark olive green with hints of red. The leaves can grow up to 40 cm long with the right care!
Botanical description
Panamanian lowlands at altitudes up to 100 m. It has been found almost exclusively in the Darién and Colón regions.
Care.
Anthurium papillaminum thrives in indirect light indoors and does not refuse additional plant lighting. When grown as a potted plant, it needs to be planted in well-drained soil that allows the roots to be moist without rotting. The pot also needs to be well-draining, so make sure there are holes.
This is an Anthurium species for those who appreciate character. It thrives best in high humidity and even soil moisture, but rewards care with impressive growth and an exclusive, tropical feel. Perfect for those who want something out of the ordinary, buy Anthurium papillaminum online!
