Alocasia wentii is a species originating from New Papua Guinea . The leaves are large and leathery. It is also one of the easier to care for Alocasia varieties and can grow relatively quickly indoors.

Botanical description.

Alocasia wentii grows as an epiphyte on medium-sized trees in humid mountain areas, at about 1500 meters above sea level. In Swedish we call it 'Broad Papuan Shield'.

Appearance.

The leaves grow in groups of up to 8, are dark green and heart-shaped with a slightly leathery texture. They are much shorter than the petioles, measuring up to 15 cm long and 10 cm wide.

Care.

Alocasia wentii should be grown in a well-drained soil mix with plenty of organic nutrients such as worm castings. The soil should never dry out completely, although the plant can tolerate short periods of drought. This Alocasia species thrives in indirect bright light, for example in a south-facing room away from direct sun.
