Alocasia longiloba 'Watsoniana', stylish houseplant with clear veins
Alocasia 'watsoniana' is an easy-care and unusual Alocasia. It has large, shiny leaves with a beautifully contrasting vein structure. The leaves differ from the more narrowly leafed standard form of A. longiloba.
Although 'Watsoniana' is not the largest in the Alocasia genus, it still gets quite large. The leaves can grow up to 60 cm long and 30 cm wide!
Botanical description
Alocasia longiloba 'Watsoniana' is not an accepted species. It probably comes from Borneo, Sumatra and the Malay Peninsula (Malaysia), where Alocasia longiloba originated. Unlike many other Alocasia species, the watsoniana variety has a slightly rounder leaf shape, especially compared to 'standard longiloba'.
Care instructions
Light: Place in bright light but without direct sun. It thrives best in filtered light, or a little way into the room from a south-facing window.
Temperature: Avoid cold, keep at least 20 ° C. It does not thrive in temperatures above about 28 degrees.
Humidity: At least 60% relative humidity is needed, especially during winter. Avoid dry indoor air from radiators, which will cause dry leaf edges.
Watering: Water to keep the soil slightly moist, but not wet. Allow the surface to dry out between waterings. Adjust amount according to season, location and pot size.
Pot selection: Use a pot that holds enough moisture, not too small (risk of drying out), but not too large (risk of uneven moisture distribution). Buy Alocasia watsoniana online!
