Well known from cultivation as a houseplant in the Philippines, and introduced as Alocasia cv. Samar Lance in 1984. It was first described as a species in 1999.
Alocasia scalprum is an unusual plant characterized by its deep green leaves, often with a metallic sheen. The leaves have a sculpted, almost knife-like shape, giving rise to its Latin name "scalprum" (Latin for "chisel" or "knife"). The leaf surface is smooth and glossy, and the veins are prominent but subtle.
