Dramatically large, dark leaves
Alocasia 'Regal Shields' is a hybrid of two very different species, and the result is striking. The plant grows large, with deeply dark and heart-shaped leaves. No wonder it has become one of the most successful hybrids ever.
The plant reaches 30 centimeters to 1.2 meters in height and 60-90 centimeters in width. The leaves can grow up to 23 centimeters long and about 15 centimeters wide, with a leathery, smooth surface that is matte on the top but satiny on the underside.
Botanical description
The plant is a hybrid between Alocasia odora (seed parent) × Alocasia reginula 'Black Velvet' (pollen parent). LariAnn Garner (Aroidia Research) crossed the species in 2007.
Care
Repot the plant in a pot with ample space for the roots. The soil should be well-draining, such as our aroid soil. Alocasia thrives in indirect light and should be watered so that the soil is always slightly moist but never completely wet. Do dark tones suit your room? Buy Alocasia 'Regal Shields' online!
