Alocasia infernalis: The darkest Alocasian ever discovered!
There are plants that are dark, and then there is Alocasia infernalis , a plant so deep purple that it almost seems to absorb light. A compact rarity from the rainforests of Sarawak that is completely unique in the plant kingdom.
From metallic purple when young to shiny purplish-black as an adult, this is probably the darkest Alocasia ever discovered. With its compact size of just 55cm and upward-pointing leaves, it creates a dramatic silhouette that no other plant can match.
Botanical description
Alocasia infernalis was discovered relatively recently (2007) in the rainforests of Sarawak, Borneo, specifically in the Sungai Gaat Valley. The name "infernalis" means "infernal" or "diabolical" in Latin, a poetic reference to the remarkably dark leaves that resemble a vampire's cloak.

Botanically, it belongs to the Alocasia scabriscula group and is unique in its softly hairy petioles and special inflorescence. In nature, it grows in deep shade on the rainforest floor, covered in thick layers of leaves, which explains its ability to thrive in low light.
With its metallic purple young leaves and shiny purple-black adult leaves, it is, according to experts, " perhaps the most horticulturally significant Alocasia from Borneo yet discovered" .
Care
Like a true rainforest plant from the deep forests of Borneo:
Light: Bright, indirect light, too bright light will fade the beautiful dark colors
Humidity: High (60-70%) - as in the home region of Sarawak
Temperature: 18-28°C, avoid cold below 15°C
Soil : Well-drained, loamy mix that mimics the rainforest floor, e.g. our aroid soil.
Pot: A pot with lots of holes in it, orchid pots are perfect.
Water: Keep the soil consistently moist but not wet
Her natural habitat is deep shade, so avoid direct sunlight which can damage the delicate, dark leaves.
The darkest and most dramatic Alocasia available, a true collector's gem from the unexplored rainforests of Borneo! Buy Alocasia infernalis online!
